Jean a drawing a day

Thoughts after a year (and a few days) of drawing every day.

As you can see, although my year of drawing every day was completed on the 3rd August, I have continued into a second year. There are a few reasons for this.

One of the most significant is becoming part of the wonderful #DrawingAugust organised by @JeanStevens4 and @olderThanevil on Twitter. If you haven’t seen the drawings being posted by nearly 200 artists its well worth exploring. #DrawingAugust has overlapped with the end of my year of drawing and swept me into the next year!

Another is that drawing each day has become part of my routine, often planned in relation to what I’m doing and where I’m going. Whilst I would sometimes struggle with ‘what shall I draw?’ moments this is now less frequent.

The effect of people looking at, liking and commenting on my drawings is also very encouraging. I am always surprised that people have chosen to follow this blog and it is so interesting for me to see where you are all based around the world and see your blogs.

I have compiled the drawings from 4th August 2012 to 3rd August 2013 into two sequences – six months in each. Here is a link to these – they’re on my Facebook page:

For me seeing them like this emphasises some of my preoccupations in drawing – trees (especially in winter), tiles and tile patterns, snow and artefacts in galleries and museums are a few. There’s a seasonal element too – the weather, seasons and occasions are apparent here and there.

So thanks to all of you who look – I appreciate your interest and I recommend drawing or making or something every day and sharing it with people you know and people you don’t!
