The memory of a sky
Brushes Redux app
I saw a great sky on the way to yoga and tried to hold it in my memory until I got the chance to draw it.

Fremington garden, Devon
Pen
20 x 20cm
I’ve been staying with friends in Fremington, North Devon, and their garden is absolutely wonderful. Last year I began improving mine but seeing this garden has really inspired me to get the patio and pathways sorted out so I can then concentrate on more interesting planting. My original aim had been to create a garden to inspire draiwng so when I didn’t feel like going somewhere I could just stay in the garden and draw.

Hartland Quay
Pencil and watercolour
20 x 20cm
The geology of the land is so visible at Hartland Quay – it’s quite amazing! It’s quite hard to know where to start to draw as there is so much to see and the structures and patterns are so unfamiliar. The weather was perfect – despite a poor outlook in the morning by the afternoon it was bright blue and sunny and a very clear view.

from Instow beach and from Westward Ho! Beach
Pencil and watercolour
20 x 20cm
Today we walked from Fremington to Instow on the Tarka Trail. The first drawing is looking from Instow beach across to the next headland. The next one was later, in Westward Ho!, looking a a pile of rocks with the land in the distance behind. I’ve exaggerated the colours of the rocks somewhat!
