Today I went to Tate Britain and saw the Paul Nash exhibition – an interesting tour through how Nash’s work developed, the impact of his experience of the First World War and his life after the war. I was particularly interested in the work he did with Eileen Agar who used collage in her art.
In the afternoon I went to to a performance by artist, Dave McKean, called Black Dog: the dreams of Paul Nash. He used live and recorded music, film, images and spoken word and brought the work and life of Nash to life in front of us. After the performance he spoke with Emma Chambers and Dr David Boyd Hancock about Nash and about the art Dave had made. During the discussion I drew the people talking and used some of their words and the images of Nash. Drawing people is not a strength of mine so I hope they are not too insulted!
If you get the chance to see Dave McKean’s performance or read his book I highly recommend them both.
