This month I have been taking part in #printoctober on Twitter. I started out with no clear idea of a unifying theme but over the month I arrived at making hand drawn monoprints based on broken pieces of pottery picked up by two people on Twitter: @PoetDeanWilson6 and @LegoLostAtSea. Thanks to them for the inspiration!

This approach allowed me to make my daily drawing and also make a print all at the same time. I used basic printmaking materials: a piece of Perspex, a roller and water based block printing ink. Over time I began to combine several colours and get a feel for the amount of ink and how hard to press with my finger and pencil to create different colours and marks. I’ve only had intermittent success with this type of printing before but this time the daily practice paid off and I began to be able to build on what I’d learned each day.

I can see that other artists have been posting for #inktober and in particular Raj Katri’s and Tim Griffiths’s lovely miniatures are well worth looking up along with @paulcarneyart’s beautiful ink creations.
