After a gap of a few days I’m back at the mixed media thumbnails online course. This is the perfect exercise for me: drawing branches and the negative spaces between them. These are from the spare bedroom window, trees I see all the time. I can see myself returning to this many times in the future in different locations and seasons.

Day 5 of mixed media thumbnails, start where you are.

I started in a place I often sketch and walk, Abington Park. I wondered if I would be able to find my something but as soon as I got there I found it, recognising something that I always focus on and like to look at and sketch. That was the horizontal lines of sunshine and shadow with the tree trunks cutting vertically across them. This was accentuated today by the clouds, so that the sun would come out suddenly, reveal the something and then go in and it would disappear. After I had completed the thumbnails I took out, walking back, I saw loads of even better examples! My markmaking on the collage was hurriedly made as it began to rain.
